The Hills Have Eyes

I'm posting Days 3 and 4 a little late because I didn't have Internet connectivity for a while and because I was a little afraid of the Oklahoma/Texas local folk. Monday we drove from Conway, AR to Amarillo, TX and it was the most deserted stretch of land I've ever seen. It pretty much was just us and the bugs that hit the car, which by the way were quite plentiful. We would drive long stretches at a time and only see abandoned gas stations on the side of the road. Even worse was the landscape. It was just flat lands for as far as you can see with a bunch of cows thrown in for good measure. The only saving grace was a mall in Amarillo, TX which had some jewelry that I had been looking for. At least I can check Oklahoma and NW Texas off on the been there done that list.

Walking in Memphis

Day 2 of the cross-country trip has proved to be a little more exciting. Not only did we see 22 more Cracker Barrels but we made it to Graceland as well. I hate to say it but Graceland was kind of meh. I don't know exactly what I expected but it just was okay. The house actually wasn't that big and it wasn't as tacky as I had hoped. Even my grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich was just meh. Thankfully there weren't crowds of people to put up with. 'Course we had to brave the ghetto lands of Memphis to get there. Don't think I'll be going back to Tennessee let alone Memphis. At the end of the day at least I can cross of Tennessee as a state I've been to. Tomorrow we're off to Amarillo, TX.
